Tromora Castle, also known as Tromra Castle, is a late 15th-century tower house located near Seafield and Quilty in County Clare on Ireland’s west coast. Built between about 1460 and 1490, it is traditionally associated with the O’Brien family and served as both a residence and a symbol of local power during the medieval period. Despite centuries of weathering, the stone structure still stands and remains a distinctive landmark in the coastal landscape of Clare. The castle was built using local flagstone masonry and features typical tower-house elements such as vaulted rooms, stairways, and defensive upper levels. Parts of the building have collapsed over time, but much of its historic character remains visible. Today, Tromora Castle is valued for its historical significance and its scenic setting amid the countryside near the Atlantic coast. Visitors are drawn to its atmospheric ruins, medieval heritage, and the peaceful views of the surrounding Clare landscape.
