Trujillo Alcazaba
Trujillo, Spain, Spain
Trujillo Alcazaba, perched on Cabeza del Zorro hill in Trujillo, Cáceres province, Extremadura, Spain, is a medieval Moorish fortress built between the 9th and 12th centuries over earlier Roman and Visigothic remains.
Featuring a horseshoe arch entrance, eight square towers including prominent albarrana types, underground cisterns, and robust walls that extend to encircle the old town, it served as a key defensive stronghold during repeated Reconquista battles, changing hands multiple times before its final Christian conquest by Ferdinand III in 1233.
Well-preserved today as a historic monument acquired by the city council in 1929, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding plains and houses a chapel dedicated to the town's patron saint.
