Tupim Beach (Banana Drum Beach)
Israel, Israel
Tupim Beach, also known as Banana Drum Beach or Banana Beach, is a relaxed, somewhat secluded public beach in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel, located on the southern end of Herbert Samuel Promenade near the Dolphinarium and just north of the central beaches.
The beach is named after the popular Banana café on-site and is famous for its weekly drum session every Friday afternoon, where Tel Aviv’s most talented and eccentric drummers gather to play live beats and dance together, creating a bohemian, fun atmosphere.
It has fine light sand, is often windy in open areas, and offers activities like swimming, sunbathing, surfing (with an on-site surf school), parasailing, kitesurfing, fishing, hula hooping, and playing Matkot (a popular Israeli beach paddle game). The beach is clean, has public restrooms, outdoor showers, a children’s play area, and chair rentals available, though it has fewer sports facilities than other Tel Aviv beaches.
Amenities include a café, and nearby restaurants and hotels, and it is accessible by bus (lines 16, 66, 166, and Sherut line 16 stop nearby) or Tel-O-Fun bike rental station at Zerubavel Street and the promenade. Lifeguards are on duty during summer (May–October) from 7:45 am to sundown, but not in winter. The beach is also known as Drummers Beach and sometimes Dolphinarium Beach, due to the nearby abandoned Dolphinarium complex that once housed a famous nightclub.
