Tynte's Castle is a well-preserved medieval tower house located on North Main Street in Youghal, County Cork, Ireland. Built in the late 15th century by the Walsh family, a wealthy merchant family of Norman origin, it originally served as both a fortified residence and a secure store for valuable trade goods. The castle later passed to Sir Robert Tynte, whose name it still bears, and played various roles throughout its history, including use as a residence, storehouse, and prison. Standing about 15 metres (50 feet) tall, it is the last surviving example of several merchant tower houses that once existed in medieval Youghal. Today, Tynte's Castle is a notable local landmark and tourist attraction, valued for its distinctive stone architecture, defensive features, and connection to Youghal's rich trading and medieval heritage.
