Verified Utö hus

Strandby, Sweden, Sweden

Utö hus, located on Arnö Island in Lake Mälaren near Strandby in Uppland, Sweden, stands as one of the country's best-preserved medieval manor houses, first documented in the early 15th century under the ownership of the Schack family.

In the 1630s, Chancellor Johan Skytte of Uppsala University merged it with neighboring Grönsö Manor through his marriage to Maria Näf, leading to repairs around 1740, occasional habitation until the 1840s when it became storage, and donation in 1937 to the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities by Alice von Ehrenheim.

This rectangular stone structure boasts crow-stepped gables, a cellar, two main floors, two attic levels with a high cellar entrance, and a 17th-century room layout across seven ground-floor spaces, exemplifying post-Reformation noble estates amid Mälaren waterway control.
