Vaduz Castle (Schloss Vaduz)

Vaduz, Liechtenstein

---

Vaduz Castle (Schloss Vaduz) is the most famous landmark in Vaduz and the official residence of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein.

Perched on a hill overlooking the capital, the castle dates back to the 12th century and has played a central role in the country’s history for hundreds of years. Originally built as a medieval fortress, the castle was expanded and restored several times over the centuries. The oldest part is its impressive keep, while later additions include residential quarters and the Chapel of St. Anna.

Since 1938, it has served as the permanent home of Liechtenstein’s ruling prince and his family. Although the castle is not open to the public because it remains a private residence, it is an iconic symbol of Liechtenstein and can be admired from many viewpoints around Vaduz. Its hilltop setting, historic architecture, and connection to the princely family make it one of the country’s most important cultural and historic sites.
