The original castle endured destruction during repeated Danish-Swedish wars, including sieges by Åke Hansson Tott in 1507, before a devastating 1800 fire prompted reconstruction in 1801 by Otto Wilhelm Burenskiöld as a 40-room Empire-style manor incorporating medieval remnants like lower facade stones.
Protected as a historic building since 1978 with an undeciphered runestone in its garden, the estate now operates as a horse riding and conference center amid scenic waters.
