Velipojë is a coastal village and former municipality in Shkodër County in northwestern Albania, now part of the Shkodër municipality, located near the mouth of the Buna River where it flows into the Adriatic Sea and forms the natural border with Montenegro. It is known for a long, sandy beach that curves along the shore and is considered both a curative, therapeutic sand beach and a popular summer getaway, especially for residents of nearby Shkodër, about 30 kilometres inland. The wider area includes the Buna River–Velipojë Protected Landscape, combining estuary, pine woods, heathland, and farmland, which supports birdwatching, fishing, some eco‑tourism, and small‑scale agriculture, while the village itself has simple seaside hotels, restaurants, and a developing resort atmosphere centred around the beach and the nearby river estuary.
