Venetian Towers
Barcelona, Spain, Spain
Venetian Towers in Barcelona, Spain, are twin 47-meter red-brick structures built between 1927 and 1929 by architect Ramon Reventós as a grand entrance gateway to the Montjuïc exhibition district for the 1929 International Exposition.
Inspired by Venice's St. Mark's Basilica campanile but adapted with square 7.2-meter bases, artificial stone foundations, exposed brick shafts, columned galleries, and copper-clad pyramid roofs, they mark the start of Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina leading to the Palau Nacional.
Originally temporary and open for public climbs, the towers survived post-Expo, underwent restorations like 1984 roof replacements and 2013-2014 safety works costing €472,000, and now stand as iconic ornamental landmarks framing views toward the Magic Fountain despite using economical noucentisme materials.
