Veveří Castle is one of the largest and oldest castles in the Czech Republic, located about 12 kilometers northwest of Brno on a rocky promontory above the Svratka River near the Brno Reservoir.

It was first documented in 1213, although local legends trace its origins back to the 11th century. Originally a royal and ducal fortress, the castle was expanded significantly during the 14th century under Margrave John Henry, the brother of Emperor Charles IV.

Over the centuries it played an important strategic role, surviving military conflicts including the Hussite Wars and later undergoing Renaissance and Baroque modifications. Today, Veveří Castle is a major cultural and tourist attraction, admired for its impressive medieval architecture, scenic setting, and long history.
