The Victory Arch, also known as the “Hands of Victory” or the “Swords of Qādisīyah,” is one of Baghdad’s most recognizable monuments.
Completed in 1989, the structure consists of two massive arches formed by giant hands holding crossed swords, marking the entrances to Grand Festivities Square in central Baghdad. Built to commemorate Iraqi soldiers who fought in the Iran–Iraq War, the monument has become a prominent symbol of Iraq’s modern history and is regarded as one of the capital’s most iconic landmarks.
