The Walls of Tabarca enclose the tiny island of Nueva Tabarca off Alicante's coast in Spain, constructed in 1769 under King Carlos III's orders to fortify the site against Barbary pirate raids from North Africa.
Designed by military engineer Fernando Méndez de Ras, this rectangular Renaissance-style enclosure features robust stone walls quarried locally, monumental gates, defensive batteries, and corner bastions protecting the settlement of repopulated Genoese fishermen from Tunisia.
Designated a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1964 alongside the church and governor's house, the walls now frame the island's charming village, offering visitors sea panoramas and a tangible link to 18th-century coastal defense strategies.
