The Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, was the official residence of the Russian emperors from 1732 until the 1917 Revolution and is one of the most magnificent examples of Russian Baroque architecture.

Designed primarily by architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the palace is famous for its grand green-and-white façade, lavish interiors, and historical significance. Today, the palace forms the centerpiece of the State Hermitage Museum, one of the largest and most renowned art museums in the world. Founded by Catherine the Great in 1764, the museum houses more than three million objects, including masterpieces of painting, sculpture, archaeology, and decorative arts from many cultures and eras.
