The chateau underwent several modifications over the centuries, incorporating Gothic, Renaissance, and mainly Baroque architectural elements, with a Gothic bastion being the oldest part that survived a fire in 1561.

Today, the chateau houses the Vysočina Museum, which features exhibitions on regional history, ethnography, the town's development, and notable local artists such as Josef and Zdeněk Šejnosta. Visitors can also explore a preserved torture chamber and a hall decorated with frescoes. The chateau is an important cultural monument and a focal point in Pelhřimov, reflecting the town's rich heritage and architectural evolution.
