Zamek Racice U Vyskova
Račice, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Zámek Račice, located in Račice-Pístovice near Vyškov in the Czech Republic, was originally built as a castle in the late 13th century and later transformed into a Renaissance chateau.
It was initially constructed by the nieces of Kojata of Hněvín between 1275 and 1285 and passed through several noble families, including the Lords of Lipá, Šternberk, and Kravaře. The castle played roles in regional conflicts, including being a Hussite base and experiencing sieges during the Czech-Hungarian Wars. In the late 16th century, Hanuš Petřvaldský of Petřvald rebuilt it in a late Renaissance style, decorating it with ornate interiors and a courtyard fountain.
The estate changed hands multiple times, with the textile magnate Baron Jan Mundy renovating the northwestern wing and adding Biedermeier styling in the 19th century. The last pre-war owner, industrialist Philipp von Schöller, further refined the château into a tastefully furnished residence. During the 1938 general mobilization, the château briefly served as the headquarters of the Czechoslovak Army General Staff.
After World War II, the building served various communal functions before being purchased privately in 2017 and renovated for tourism, including accommodation and tours of its historic spaces
