Zámek Smečno
Smečno, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Zámek Smečno is a Renaissance chateau in the town of Smečno in the Kladno District of Czechia’s Central Bohemian Region, originally a 13th-century fortress rebuilt into a late Gothic structure before 1460 by Bořita z Martinic.
In 1586, Jiří Bořita z Martinic transformed it into a regular four-wing Renaissance palace with arcades around an irregular rectangular courtyard, featuring two towers including a polygonal eastern one housing a 1460 chapel with net vaulting.
The Martinic family owned it until 1798, with later Baroque modifications in the 17th-18th centuries including a sala terrena and English-style park, and today it serves as a home for people with disabilities while the surrounding grounds remain publicly accessible.
