Zamek W Namysłowie
Namysłów, Poland, Poland
Zamek w Namysłowie, located in Namysłów, Poland, is a historical castle whose origins trace back to at least 1312 when it was likely a wooden fortification.
Around 1360, under the order of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, the wooden structure was replaced with a brick castle built in a Gothic style atop a small mound. The castle originally featured defensive elements such as a surrounding moat, which was later removed in the 19th century.
Over centuries, it saw various owners including the city council of Wrocław, the Teutonic Order, and from the 19th century, it became privately owned by the Haselbach family, who also owned the adjacent brewery. Architecturally, it underwent Renaissance-style renovations in the 16th century and repairs after damage caused by fires and military conflicts. Today, the castle is privately owned by the Żywiec Group and is not open for public visits, remaining visible mostly from the outside beside the brewery.
The castle is a symbol of the rich medieval heritage of Namysłów, with historical significance including hosting peace negotiations and being linked to notable historical figures such as King Władysław Jagiełło and Kazimierz Jagiellończyk.
