Verified Zámek Zahrádky

Zahrádky, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Zámek Zahrádky is a historic Renaissance and Baroque château located in the village of Zahrádky in the Liberec Region of northern Czechia.

Built in the mid-16th century by the Vartenberk family, it later became associated with influential noble owners including Albrecht von Wallenstein, who introduced Baroque modifications and helped shape the surrounding landscape. For centuries, the château served as the seat of the powerful Kounic family and was regarded as one of the most important aristocratic residences in the Českolipsko region.

Its history reflects major events in Bohemian history, including the consequences of the Battle of White Mountain and the rise of the Habsburg monarchy. A devastating fire in 2003 severely damaged the building, leaving much of the interior destroyed. The château is now owned by Charles University and has been undergoing gradual restoration, while parts of the grounds remain accessible.

The estate is also known for its beautiful park, historic linden avenue, and its connection to the nearby Peklo (Hell) Valley nature monument, making it a notable destination for visitors interested in history, architecture, and natural scenery.
