Zamora Castle
Zamora, Spain, Spain
Zamora Castle is an 11th-century fortress northwest of Zamora's cathedral in Castilla y León, Spain, likely built by Ferdinand I of León on pre-Roman foundations to defend the city during the Reconquista.
It features a distinctive diamond-shaped plan with pentagonal and heptagonal towers, a prominent keep as the last defensive bastion, concentric moats, and thick walls averaging two meters, later adapted for artillery in the 18th century under Felipe V.
Restored in 2009 and declared a Spanish Historical Heritage site in 1931, it now hosts the Baltasar Lobo contemporary art museum amid panoramic Duero River views.
