Znojmo Castle is one of the oldest castles in Czechia, standing on a hill above the Dyje (Thaya) River in the historic town of Znojmo.

It was originally built as a wooden fortress by the Přemyslid dynasty around the 11th century and was later rebuilt in stone, becoming an important defensive stronghold and administrative center near the Austrian border. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded and connected to the town’s fortifications.

Its military importance gradually declined, and parts of the complex were later converted into a brewery and a Baroque residence. Today, Znojmo Castle is a major cultural landmark offering panoramic views of the river valley. The complex is closely associated with the famous Romanesque Rotunda of St. Catherine, which contains rare medieval frescoes and is considered one of the most valuable historical monuments in the Czech Republic.
