Verified Zřícenina Hradu Fredevald

Prysk, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Fredevald, also known as Pustý zámek (“Deserted Castle”), is the ruin of a medieval Gothic castle located near Prysk in the Lusatian Mountains of northern Czechia.

It was probably built in the second half of the 14th century by the Lords of Michalovice to protect an important trade route running through the Kamenice River valley. The castle is first documented in 1406 and later belonged to several noble families, including the Berka and Vartenberk families.

During conflicts with the Lusatian towns in the 15th century, the castle was repeatedly attacked and severely damaged, eventually losing its importance and being abandoned by the end of the century. Today, only small remnants of walls and fortifications remain on a dramatic basalt rock outcrop above the Kamenice valley.
