Zřícenina hradu Třebel
Černošín, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
The ruins of Třebel Castle are located near the village of Černošín in the Czech Republic.
The castle was founded in the mid-13th century by the knights of Třebel from the noble family of Svojšín, with the first written mentions dating between 1240 and 1250, attributed to Oldřich of Třebel as the builder. The castle stood on a steep hill above the Kosový stream along the road from Černošín to Mariánské Lázně and was originally a two-part fortress, possibly of the bergfried (tall tower) type.
It was owned by the Volfštejn family in the 15th century and was extensively rebuilt and expanded after 1450. Between 1492 and 1659, the castle belonged to the Švamberk family. Třebel castle was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War; its walls partially collapsed following artillery fire, and a fire in 1644 caused further destruction.
The castle was eventually abandoned and demolished on the order of Emperor Ferdinand III to ensure it could not be used by enemies. A large Baroque farmstead with a 60-meter high granary was later built on the site around 1750 by the Sinzendorf family, and the granary still stands today.
The ruins of the castle, which include some remains of the bergfried and foundational structures, are freely accessible and protected as a cultural monument, reflecting the site's medieval heritage and turbulent history.
