Zvíkov Castle in Zvíkovské Podhradí, Czech Republic, is a well-preserved medieval fortress built in the early 13th century, likely under King Přemysl Otakar I. It sits on a rocky promontory overlooking the confluence of the Vltava and Otava rivers, a strategic location that helped it withstand several historic sieges, including a four-month siege during the Hussite Wars and a defense against a much larger army in the Thirty Years' War.

The castle served as a royal residence and even temporarily housed the Czech crown jewels before losing prominence after Karlštejn Castle was built. Over centuries, it passed through the hands of prominent noble families who made Renaissance renovations while retaining much of its original Gothic character. After periods of decline and damage, including a fire in 1751, it was restored in the 19th century and later by the state.

Today, it features notable historic architecture, including its Romanesque Chapel of St. Wenceslas with 16th-century murals, a great hall, and a keep tower offering panoramic views. Zvíkov Castle remains a prominent symbol of Czech heritage and medieval architecture, attracting visitors with its rich history and scenic surroundings.
