Simpler Bookings and Better Schedules as Malaysia Airlines, SIA Join Forces

Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines are set to take their long-standing collaboration to the next level after receiving the latest regulatory approvals, paving the way for a deeper commercial partnership focused on cross-border travel between Malaysia and Singapore.

The enhanced cooperation, involving Malaysia Aviation Group (MAB) and Singapore Airlines (SIA), aims to deliver a more seamless and flexible travel experience for passengers while unlocking operational synergies for both carriers. As one of Southeast Asia’s busiest air corridors, connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore stands to benefit significantly from closer coordination between the two national airlines.

Under the expanded partnership, the airlines are exploring several initiatives, including revenue-sharing flights, joint fare products, coordinated flight schedules, and integrated corporate travel arrangements. Together, these measures are expected to simplify booking processes, improve flight timings, and offer greater value to both leisure and business travellers. The carriers noted that more details will be announced progressively as each initiative is implemented.

Datuk Captain Izham bin Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, said the partnership marks a major milestone under the Group’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0. He highlighted that aligning schedules and frequencies with SIA will strengthen connectivity, enhance Malaysia Airlines’ competitive position, and improve network resilience over time, while expanding reach across key regional and international markets.

SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong thanked regulators in both countries for enabling the deeper cooperation, describing it as a win-win arrangement. He added that the partnership not only strengthens both airlines but also delivers enhanced value to customers, while reinforcing the long-standing economic, trade, and people-to-people ties between Singapore and Malaysia.

Since signing their initial agreement in October 2019, MAB and SIA have steadily expanded their codeshare operations. Currently, SIA codeshares on Malaysia Airlines flights between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, London Heathrow, and 15 domestic destinations across Malaysia. In return, Malaysia Airlines codeshares on SIA services linking Singapore with Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and multiple long-haul destinations in Europe and Africa.

The latest expansion signals a continued commitment by both carriers to deepen regional aviation ties and offer passengers a broader, more integrated network across Asia and beyond.
