Uzbekistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan. Its capital and largest city is Tashkent. Uzbekistan has a population of more than 37 million, making it the most populous country in Central Asia. Uzbek is the official language, and most inhabitants are Sunni Muslims.
The country’s landscape is mostly composed of desert, steppe, and mountain regions. Uzbekistan is known for its historical cities such as Samarkand and Bukhara, which were key stops on the ancient Silk Road. The country gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and is rich in cultural heritage.
