Ahmedabad, founded on February 26, 1411, by Sultan Ahmed Shah I of the Gujarat Sultanate, serves as the historic and economic capital of Gujarat, India.

The city was established near the older Hindu town of Ashaval, which had been ruled by the Solankis and later the Vaghela dynasty before falling under the Delhi Sultanate. Its founding is tied to a legend involving Sultan Ahmed Shah witnessing a rare event where a hare chased a dog, symbolizing the land's remarkable qualities, leading him to select it as his new capital.

Ahmedabad grew quickly, fortified extensively by his grandson Mahmud Begada in the late 15th century with a massive wall bearing twelve gates and numerous bastions.

The city flourished culturally and commercially under successive sultans, becoming a hub of architecture, trade, and artisanry. Known for its rich blend of Hindu and Muslim culture, it played a significant role in India's struggle for independence, notably as a center of Mahatma Gandhi's activities.

Today, Ahmedabad is a vibrant metropolis recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its historic sites, vibrant culture, and enduring legacy.
