Al-Kahf Castle
Syria, Syria
Al-Kahf Castle is a medieval fortress in northwestern Syria, near Margat in the coastal mountains.
It was built around 1120, later became an important Isma'ili stronghold, and was linked to the leader Rashid ad-Din Sinan. The castle was captured by the Mamluks in 1273 and later destroyed in the Ottoman period, so today it survives mainly as ruins on a rocky ridge between two deep valleys.
