Allahabad Fort, built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1583, stands on the banks of the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh. It served as a strategic military outpost and symbol of Akbar's empire, blending Mughal, Persian, and Hindu architectural styles.

The fort is notable for its massive red sandstone walls, three grand gateways facing the rivers, and intricate carvings that reflect the syncretic cultural heritage of the region. Inside the fort are significant sites such as the Patalpuri Temple, the sacred Akshayavat Banyan tree, and the 10-meter tall Ashoka Pillar, which carries inscriptions dating back to 232 BCE and later eras.

Historically, the fort was a key military stronghold during Mughal and British times and witnessed important events such as the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Today, it remains a protected monument managed by the Archaeological Survey of India, attracting visitors with its rich history and architectural grandeur, though entry inside is restricted except during special occasions like the Kumbh Mela.​
