Amber Fort
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
Amber Fort, also known as Amer Fort, is a grand hilltop fortress and palace complex in the town of Amer, just outside Jaipur in Rajasthan, India.
Built in 1592 by Maharaja Man Singh I and later expanded by successive rulers, the fort sits on a rugged hill overlooking Maota Lake and the surrounding countryside, giving it a striking, imposing presence. Constructed from pale yellow and pink sandstone combined with white marble, it blends Rajput and Mughal styles, with courtyards, halls, temples, and living quarters spread across four main sections of the palace.
Notable areas include the Diwan‑i‑Aam (Hall of Public Audience), the ornate Jai Mandir, the mirror‑work Sheesh Mahal, and the zenana (women’s quarters), all decorated with intricate carvings, frescoes, and reflective surfaces. Today Amber Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Rajasthan’s most visited attractions, appreciated for its history, sweeping views, and romantic light‑and‑sound show in the evening.
