Antur Fort

Antur Fort, also called Anturgad, is a historical fort located near Nagapur village in Kannad taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, Maharashtra.

It was built in the mid-15th century by a Maratha chieftain named Antur and later came under the control of the Nizam of Ahmednagar. The fort played an important strategic role given its location on a ridge of the Ajanta-Satmal mountain range, with defensive features including the Bhakka Darwaza gate and fortified wooden gates. Three gates guard the entrance, and the fort is divided into upper and lower parts separated by ramparts.

Despite much of it now being in ruins and overgrown with vegetation, the fort retains ruins of bastions, walls, and a water tank near the ramparts. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys and serves as a testament to the military and architectural expertise of the Maratha and Nizam rulers who controlled it.

Antur Fort is a lesser-known but fascinating heritage site, popular among trekkers and history enthusiasts.
