Verified Asmangadh Palace

Hyderabad, Telangana, India

Asmangadh Palace in Hyderabad, Telangana, is a heritage structure built in 1885 by Sir Asman Jah, the Prime Minister of the erstwhile Hyderabad State and a member of the Paigah family.

The palace, perched on a hillock, was designed to resemble a miniature medieval European castle, inspired by Gothic architecture with features such as granite turrets, pointed arches, Corinthian columns, and castellated battlements. The name "Asmangadh" means "home in the sky," reflecting its lofty location with commanding views of the surrounding forest, which was a hunting preserve for the Nizam and his courtiers.

Sir Asman Jah gifted the palace to the Nizam, who frequently visited it. The palace has served various purposes, including hosting an archaeological museum and later being converted into St. Joseph's Public School. Despite some parts being demolished in recent years, it remains a symbol of Hyderabad's rich architectural heritage and history. There is a local belief about a tunnel beneath the palace connecting it to the nearby Golkonda Fort.
