Bahula Fort
Ambebahula, Maharashtra, India
Bahula Fort, also known as Bahulagad, is located in the Igatpuri taluka of Nashik district, Maharashtra, positioned on the ancient trade route through Thal Ghat.
The fort sits at around 956 meters above sea level and covers a triangular plateau with ruins that include rock-cut stairs, water tanks, and remnants of stone fortifications. Historically, Bahula was likely part of the Maratha territory during the 17th century and probably served as an observation point guarding the entry to Nashik city.
Today, the fort is under army control and used as a firing range, making it accessible only on certain days. Visitors can see scattered cannonballs and ruins indicative of a once strategic location. From the fort, one can view neighboring forts such as Aundha, Patta, Bitangad, and others.
Despite its limited accessibility, Bahula Fort stands as a testament to the region’s military history and natural scenic beauty.
