Bajwara Fort
Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India
Bajwara Fort in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, is a historic fort built in the late 15th or early 16th century by Pashtun settlers and later developed by Raja Sansar Chand in the 18th century.
Strategically located, it served as a military outpost to monitor the Hindu Hill Rulers during the Lodi era and later became part of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s domain. The fort was constructed using locally sourced materials such as sandstone and bricks and featured bastions, ramparts, and gates named after Sikh Gurus.
The complex includes a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, a mosque likely built for Muslim soldiers, and a gurdwara honoring Guru Gobind Singh. Despite its historical significance and role in various military conflicts, including the Anglo-Sikh wars, the fort has fallen into disrepair with only some walls and bastions remaining.
It stands as a reminder of the region's rich multicultural past and is recognized for its architectural and cultural legacy.
