Bandingilo National Park in South Sudan, located near Juba in the Central Equatoria State, spans over 10,000 square kilometers of diverse landscapes including wooded areas near the White Nile, floodplains, grasslands, and seasonal wetlands.

Established in 1992, it is renowned for hosting the world’s second-largest annual animal migration, where millions of antelopes such as white-eared kob, tiang, Mongalla gazelle, and bohor reedbuck move between Bandingilo and neighboring parks like Boma and Ethiopia’s Gambella.

The park supports a rich variety of wildlife, including endangered species like the Nubian giraffe, Northeast African cheetah, and Northern lion, as well as predators like African wild dogs, spotted hyenas, and caracals. Birdlife is abundant, with over 400 species recorded, making it an important bird area.

The park’s ecosystems are shaped seasonally, with grasslands flooding in the wet season and controlled burning maintaining habitats during the dry season. Though decades of conflict impacted the region, recent management partnerships aim to secure its ecological and economic sustainability, preserving this significant conservation area and its cultural heritage for the local communities and wildlife.
