Belfast Castle, located on the slopes of Cave Hill in Northern Ireland, is a Victorian-era building completed in 1870.

It was designed in the Scottish Baronial style by architect John Lanyon or possibly his partner W.H. Lynn, featuring pink Scrabo sandstone walls with ornate turrets, battlements, and a prominent six-story tower inspired by Balmoral Castle.

The castle was commissioned by the third Marquis of Donegall but was finished with financial support from his son-in-law, Lord Ashley, the Earl of Shaftesbury. It stands on land that once belonged to the Donegall family and symbolizes their legacy, with their coat of arms prominently displayed above the entrance.

The castle offers spectacular views over Belfast Lough and is surrounded by landscaped gardens turned from former farmland. It has served various roles, including a military hospital during World War II, and today functions as a popular venue for weddings, cultural events, and public visits, showcasing a rich blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty.
