Bhai Udey Singh Fort (Kaithal Fort)
Haryana, India
Bhai Udey Singh Fort, also known as Kaithal Fort, was originally constructed in 1570 during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar for military purposes. In 1747, the Sikhs took control of the region, and Sikh ruler Desu Singh made Kaithal his capital. His descendants, including Lal Singh and Bhai Udey Singh, expanded the territory, with Bhai Udey Singh ruling from 1823 until his death in 1843. Bhai Udey Singh also built a palace near the fort, now housing the old SDM office.
After his death without an heir, the British annexed the fort, incorporating Kaithal into British-controlled territory. The fort witnessed conflicts during Sikh and British rule and remains a symbol of the region’s rich history.
