Bhalki Fort
Bhalki, India
Bhalki Fort in Bhalki, India, is a historic fort built between 1820 and 1850 by Ramachandra Jadhav and Dhanaji Jadhav, under the rule of King Jang Bahadur. Constructed with local black basalt stone and lime mortar, the fort covers about five acres and is quadrangular in shape with walls approximately 7 meters high and one bastion.
It served as an arms and ammunition depot for the Maratha army before coming under the control of the Nizam of Hyderabad during British rule. Inside the fort are ruins of palaces and offices, along with important temples such as the Kumbheshwar temple and the Bhalkeshwar temple nearby.
The fort features a stepped well, a narrow passage leading to a courtyard, and a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh. Despite its historical significance, much of the fort remains in ruins, and preservation efforts are limited.
