Verified Bhangarh Fort

Rajasthan, India

Bhangarh Fort, located in Rajasthan's Alwar district, is one of India's most famous historical ruins, built in the 17th century by Raja Madho Singh, the younger brother of the Mughal general Man Singh of Amber. The fort was strategically established amid the Aravalli hills to guard trade routes and was once a prosperous town with over 9,000 houses.

Architecturally, the fort is a fusion of Rajput and Mughal styles, featuring massive boundary walls, multiple gates including Lahori, Ajmeri, Phulbari, and Delhi Gates, and contains various temples such as Gopinath, Someshwar, Keshav Rai, Mangla Devi, and Ganesh temples built in the Nagara style.

The fort also holds grand havelis, including the famous Nartakiyon Ki Haveli or the dancers' palace, and a multi-storied royal palace, though only parts remain today. Bhangarh Fort is widely reputed as the most haunted place in India due to local legends of curses involving a tantric and a rejected princess, contributing to its eerie atmosphere.

Its ruins set against the lush Aravalli ranges offer both historical intrigue and a mysterious charm, though access is restricted during nighttime to avoid paranormal encounters.
