Bhaskargad
Harshewadi, Maharashtra, India
Bhaskargad Fort, also known as Basgad Fort, is a hill fort located in the Nashik district of Maharashtra, India, situated within the Trimbak hill range near Harihar Fort and about 48 kilometers from Igatpuri.
The fort was constructed during the reign of the Yadava dynasty of Deogiri in the 13th century and later came under the control of several rulers, including the Bahamani Sultanate, Nizamshahi of Ahmednagar, Mughals, Marathas, and Peshwas. It played a strategic role in controlling the ancient Gonda pass, an important trade route connecting the west coast to Nashik.
The fort features rock-cut steps, water cisterns, and a crude idol of Lord Hanuman. Today, Bhaskargad lies in ruins but remains a popular trekking destination known for its natural beauty and historical significance.
