Verified Bhongir Fort

Telangana, India

Bhongir Fort, also known as Bhuvanagiri Fort, is an ancient fortress located in Telangana, India, built in the 10th century by the Western Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya IV.

The fort is perched atop a massive monolithic rock about 610 meters high, giving it a strong natural defensive advantage. It was originally called Tribhuvanagiri and later named after its founder. The fort covers nearly 50 acres and features imposing walls, a moat, underground chambers, and rock-cut steps carved into the hill.

The entrance is protected by huge rocks and includes a Hanuman temple with two entry points, enhancing its defensibility. Over centuries, it was controlled by various dynasties, including the Kakatiyas, Bahmani Sultanate, Qutb Shahis, and later Mughals.

The fort also housed secret tunnels, with legends suggesting hidden corridors connecting it to Golconda Fort. Bhongir Fort is an architectural marvel combining Indian and Islamic influences and remains a symbol of historical military strength, featuring strategic vantage points offering panoramic views of the surrounding region.
