Bhudargad Fort
Bidri, Maharashtra, India
Bhudargad Fort, located near Bidri in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, India, was originally built in the 12th century by King Bhoj II of the Shilahara dynasty. It later came under the control of the Adilshahis, followed by the Marathas who captured it in 1667, with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj renovating and using it as a military post.
The fort has religious significance with temples dedicated to Shiva and Bhairav, and during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it played a key role in local conflicts, including revolts against British rule. In 1844, the British captured and partially destroyed the fort to suppress uprisings.
