Bhupatgad Fort
Kurlod, Maharashtra, India
Bhupatgad Fort is a small historic fort located in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, near the villages of Kurlod and Zaap, approximately 130 kilometers from Thane and about 30 kilometers east of Jawhar town.
The fort is situated on a northern spur of hills and can be reached after an easy one-hour trek from the base village. Though much of the fort is in ruins, it has two entrances in poor condition, several rock-cut water cisterns, and statues of Mahsoba and Hanuman. It is believed to have been strategically important for watching over the Trimbak-Wada trade route during the time of the Maratha empire.
During Shivaji Maharaj’s reign, the fort was part of the Jawhar princely state and was later captured by the Mughals in 1688. The fort features remnants of old palace structures, water tanks, and offers panoramic views of surrounding areas such as Tringalwadi, Harihar, Trimbakeshwar, Jawhar, and Mokhada.
The site is appreciated by trekkers for its scenic beauty and historical value, with trekking considered easy to moderate, making it accessible for day visits.
