Bhushangad
Satara, Maharashtra, India
Bhushangad Fort is a hill fort located in the Khatav taluka of Satara district, Maharashtra, rising about 600 feet above the surrounding plain with a flat top measuring approximately 300 square yards.
It was originally built in the 13th century by Singhan II of the Devagiri Yadava dynasty, but later fortified and strengthened by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1676. The fort holds historical significance as it was involved in battles and was attacked by Fattesingh Mane in the early 19th century. It features temples dedicated to Goddess Harinaidevi, revered by the Kulkarni clan, and to Maruti.
The fort has remnants of old walls and a large tank, now filled up, and the access is relatively easy with steps built by villagers. Visitors can reach the fort within an hour from the base village, and facilities like water and accommodation under the shade near the temple are available.
The fort is surrounded by a wooded area with flowering trees that attract butterflies and birds, making it a notable place for both history enthusiasts and nature lovers.
