Bitangad Fort
Bitaka, Maharashtra, India
Bitangad Fort is a small hill fort located near the village of Bitaka (Bitanwadi) in the Nashik district of Maharashtra, situated at an elevation of about 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) above sea level.
The fort is part of the Kalsubai range and is near other forts like Alang, Madan, Kulang, Aundha, and Patta, making it a popular destination for trekkers exploring this region. Its history is not well documented, but a letter from December 1682 mentions it in the context of Maratha control, indicating it was used strategically for surveillance.
The fort features ruins, including rock-cut steps, a cave that can accommodate a small group, and water tanks, although currently water is not available on the fort, so visitors need to carry their own. The route to the top involves climbing steep rock-cut steps, which can be slippery in the rainy season, making it best visited between November and February.
From the summit, trekkers enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding forts and the Sahyadri mountain range. Accommodation and food facilities are available in the nearby village but not on the fort itself.
