The Botanic Garden of the Indian Republic (BGIR) in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, is a 164-acre national conservation center established by the Government of India's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to preserve endangered and threatened plant species from across the country.
Located in Sector 38A along the Yamuna river bank, the garden became functional in April 2002 after being established in 1997, and it serves as a nodal center for conservation research, environmental education, and public awareness in accordance with India's commitments to the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity.
The garden currently conserves more than 10,500 individual plants representing approximately 900 plant species collected from 23 Indian states, organized into specialized sections including economic plants, medicinal plants, fruits, cacti and succulents, green belts, and water bodies.
It houses over 5,000 trees in its woodland areas and arboreta, including rare primitive species like Psilotum Nudum, a descendant of vascular plants from 400 million years ago, making it a paradise for nature lovers while fulfilling its critical mission of protecting India's threatened plant diversity.
