Burnham-on-Sea is a historic seaside town in Somerset, England, located at the mouth of the River Parrett on Bridgwater Bay.

Its history dates back to Saxon times, with origins linked to the Old English name meaning "stream meadow." The area was initially a small fishing village and grew around land reclamation and sea defense efforts dating to Roman times. The town experienced significant flooding, notably from the 1607 Bristol Channel flood.

Burnham began developing as a seaside resort in the late 18th century, partly thanks to a spa built by the local vicar, leading to growth in tourism and elegant housing. The arrival of railways in the 19th century accelerated its expansion as a holiday destination. Over the 20th century, Burnham-on-Sea expanded further with holiday camps, municipal facilities, and maintained its reputation as a popular coastal resort in southwest England.
