Camaiore is a historic town in Tuscany, Italy, situated in a wide valley at the foot of the Apuan Alps and near the Versilia coast. Its name originates from the Latin "Campus Maior," reflecting its position on a large plain that connected Lucca to the port of Luni.

Founded by the Romans around 190 B.C., the area was an important military post and resting stop along the ancient Via Francigena pilgrimage route. During the Middle Ages, Camaiore grew into an elegant medieval town with notable architectural treasures including the 13th-century Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Church of San Lazzaro with its cloister, and the Lombard Badia di San Pietro monastery from the 8th century.

The town is also famous for its Museum of Sacred Art, colorful religious festivals like the Corpus Domini procession featuring sawdust carpets, and nearby natural landscapes ideal for hiking and horseback riding.
