Chanderi Fort near Maldunge in Maharashtra is a historical site located in the Thane district near Badlapur.

It sits at an elevation of around 2,300 feet and is part of the Matheran mountain range. Although often called a fort, no significant fortifications exist today, but there are water cisterns, rock-cut steps, and caves suggesting it served a military purpose. The fort came under the Marathas during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 1600s and later passed into British hands.

The trek to the fort is considered challenging due to its rugged terrain through dense forests and waterfalls, taking about three hours to reach the summit. The site offers panoramic views of nearby forts and natural scenery, making it popular for both history enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The fort’s unique mountain shape and military base history add to its cultural significance in the region.
