Verified Chaulher Fort

Wadi Chaulher, Maharashtra, India

Chaulher Fort, also known as Chaurgad or Chalheri, is a hill fort located in the Satana tehsil of Nashik district, Maharashtra, near the base village of Wadi Chaulher.

It stands around 3,700 feet above sea level and closely resembles Salher Fort, one of Maharashtra's highest forts. Historically, Chaulher was ruled by King Gawali and was captured by the Mughals in 1637 from the Baglan King Bahirji before being taken over by the Maratha Empire. The fort features three main gates, rock-cut water tanks, ruins of old buildings, a bastion, and small temples dedicated to Lord Chaurangnath and Lord Hanuman.

The fort is known for its remarkable architecture, including underground doors and carved rock gates. It is a relatively easy day trek taking about 1.5 hours to ascend from the base village and offers spectacular views of the Satmala and Selbari-Dolbari mountain ranges. Annual fairs are held here during Pithuri Amavasya, attracting locals and visitors alike.

There is no drinking water or accommodation on the fort, so visitors must carry supplies.
