Chhachhrauli Fort
Haryana, India
Chhachhrauli Fort is an 18th‑century historic monument in the town of Chhachhrauli in Yamunanagar district, Haryana, built by the ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Kalsia and traditionally said to have been constructed in 1783 AD by Baba Ala Singh of the Phulkian (Patiala) dynasty, though most sources associate it more directly with the Kalsia state established in 1763.
The fort once served as the administrative centre of Kalsia, housing the state treasury, Toshakhana, a Dewan‑Khana for official meetings and darbars, and has important structures such as Ravi Mahal, Janak Niwas and a prominent stone clock tower built on Indo‑British lines with painted and decorated walls.
Today the fort is largely in ruins, with many passages closed and interiors damaged, but it still stands as a key symbol of the Kalsia dynasty and the region’s heritage, and is visited by history and architecture enthusiasts as a rugged, atmospheric site whose surrounding landscape offers views of the hilly countryside.
